Latino Leadership Circle Attends Sojourners Meeting in Washington, DC

By David Ramos

Belinda Passafaro and David Ramos of the Latino Leadership Circle participated today in a special policy meeting hosted by Sojourners in Washington, DC and sponsored by the Hagedorn Foundation.  The meeting entitled, "Welcoming the Stranger: Developing a Faith-Based Agenda for Comprehensive Immigration Reform" featured a host of faith-based leaders, legislative directors and foundations.  The meeting was broken up into three major areas: 1) The political landscape; 2) The religious landscape; and 3) The Civil Society landscape.  Legislative Directors from Rep. Luis Guiterrez (D-IL), Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) conducted informative presentations on the climate of the this critical issue.  Other presentations included Cecilia Munoz, Vice-President of the Office of Research, Advocacy, and Legislation of the National Council of La Raza, as well as crisp presentation by Frank Sharry, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum.  Participants conducted breakout sessions and held an open discussion to develop strategies for comprehensive immigration reform.

A special recognition to our own Belinda Passafaro for connecting LLC with Sojouners.  It is a pleasure to sojourn with you as God continues to open up paths in our respective lives, both individually and corporately.  Adelante Profeta!
