Jim Wallis in New York City

By David Ramos

Yesterday the Rev. Luis Alvarez, Rev. Orlando Crespo, Rev. Gabriel Salguero and I of the Latino Leadership Circle attended a luncheon at "The God Box" sponsored by the New York Faith & Justice and the New York Theological Seminary which featured author and activist Jim Wallis of Sojouners.

Jim spoke about his new book, The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith & Politics in a Post-Religious Right America and the need to create a revival of justice groups in America.  He underscored the necessity of organizations working collaboratively instead of competitively in order to effectuate a vital justice movement within our country.  He underscored how biblical revival wasn’t considered revival until it actually did something in society and that almost every single justice movement in history witnessed people of faith at its forefront.  New York was the beginning of Jim’s 20 city tour.

I was so blessed to see Alexie Torres-Fleming (Executive Director of Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice) who gave a passionate and moving presentation.  Bravo Alexie!  Many attended including, Lisa Harper (NY Faith & Justice), Dr. Dale Irwin, (President of New Theological Seminary), Rev. Dr. Raymond Rivera (President of the Latino Pastoral Action Center), Rev. Dr. Louis Carlo, (Associate Dean of Alliance Theological Seminary), Rev. Dr. Marc Rivera (Pastor of Primitive Christian Church), Rev. Joshua Rodriguez (Pastor of Cityline Church), Becky Garrison (Author & Religious Satirist), Bowie Snodgrass and Issac Everett of (Transmission Liturgical Community) and many more.

Congratulations Jim on your new book!  The Latino Leadership Circle appreciates your contributions and supports your efforts.

  1. Hi David, What a great event! Louis said Hi to me and I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to talk to you or Gabe. I did see you both and was so glad you were there! Blessings to the circle in 2008. – Bowie
